Cook County Tree Service Is Not One Job
Cook County covers Chicago and 134 suburbs, and the work changes considerably depending on where in it you are.
The North Shore — Wilmette, Winnetka, Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield — has some of the oldest and largest parkway trees in the region. Removals there are usually rigging jobs, not felling jobs, because there is no room to drop anything.
The near-west and southwest suburbs — La Grange, Berwyn, Cicero, Oak Park, Riverside — were platted with narrow lots, alleys and rear garages. That geometry decides the method: crews work from the alley, rig the wood down in pieces, and the price reflects the access, not the tree.
The south suburbs — Blue Island, Dolton, Markham, Homewood, Chicago Heights, Harvey, Robbins, South Holland, Posen, Phoenix — mix pre-war housing with post-war subdivisions, so one block can have mature street trees and the next can have trees planted at build-out that are only now getting large enough to cause trouble.
The northwest suburbs — Schaumburg, Palatine, Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Elk Grove Village — are largely subdivisions built out from the 1960s onward. Wider lots mean more ground work and fewer crane days.
And the southwest corner — Orland Park, Tinley Park, the Palos communities, Oak Lawn, Hickory Hills, Evergreen Park, Worth, Alsip — borders the Forest Preserves of Cook County, which means mature natural stands sitting directly against residential property lines.
Permits and Registration Vary by Town
Cook County does not set one rule. Many municipalities require a contractor registration on file before any work starts, and a separate permit to touch a parkway tree or anything in the public right-of-way. Some require neither. A few require both plus a bond.
We track this town by town and carry the registrations where they are required, so a permit question does not become your problem. If you are a village, park district or property manager, our municipalities page covers how we handle contract and right-of-way work.

Just over the county line. We work these every week too, they are simply not Cook County: Elmhurst, Bensenville, Hinsdale and Roselle in DuPage County; Homer Glen, Frankfort and Mokena in Will County; and Elgin in Kane County. The full picture is on Where We Work.
Tree Service Cook County: What We Do
Tree Trimming
Deadwood over a driveway, limbs into the roofline, branches growing toward the service drop. Trimming on a sensible cycle is cheaper than the removal that follows when it is skipped, and it keeps a tree structurally sound instead of just smaller. More on trimming.
Tree and Bush Removal
Dead, diseased, storm-damaged, or simply in the wrong place. On tight Cook County lots most removals are rigged down in sections rather than felled, and we protect the fence, the garage and the neighbor’s driveway on the way. More on removal.
Stump Removal
A ground stump is the difference between a finished job and a yard you still cannot mow. We grind below grade so the area can be seeded, sodded or planted over. More on stump removal.
Land and Lot Clearing
Clearing for new construction, an addition, a fence line, or a lot that has gone back to brush. We handle the whole lot and haul the material out. More on lot clearing.
Storm Damage and Emergency Tree Service in Cook County
We answer the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for trees down on houses, cars, driveways and fences. Storms move west to east across the county, so the west and northwest suburbs usually take a line first and the lakefront suburbs take it last.
If a tree is on or near a power line, do not go near it. Call 911 first, then ComEd at 1-800-334-7661. We will not touch an energized line, and neither should you. Once it is clear, call us at 708-424-5885 and we will get the tree off your property. More on emergency removal.
Why Choose Pro Tree Service in Cook County
We started in 1989 and have run tree service Cook County crews ever since — 37 years. That is long enough to have done jobs on most of the streets on the list above, and long enough that a good share of the calls we get are repeat customers and their neighbors.
Estimates are free and can be scheduled any day of the week. We carry a Best Price Guarantee, quote the whole job up front, and do not add to the number after the fact. We work for homeowners, property managers, commercial sites and municipalities alike — see who we serve.
Request An Estimate
Tell us the town, what the tree is doing, and how close it is to the house. That is usually enough to give you a number. Estimates can be scheduled any day of the week.
