Dead Trees

A dead tree does not stay stable. The wood dries, turns brittle, and loses the strength a climber needs to work it safely — which is why the price climbs the longer it stands rather than falling.

Diseased Trees

Rot at the base or a hollow trunk changes how a tree can be taken down, because a climber cannot trust it. Some diseases also move to neighbouring trees, so timing matters.

Unstable Trees

A lean that has changed recently, a crack in the trunk, or soil lifting on one side of the base. A lean that has always been there is a different conversation from one that appeared after a storm.

Root Problems

What Makes Tree Removal In Chicago Different

Most of the city was platted narrow, with an alley behind and a garage on the back of the lot. That geometry decides the method far more often than the tree does. There is no drop zone, so a removal is rigged: roped, cut in sections, and lowered piece by piece over a fence, a garage roof or a neighbour’s gangway.

This catches people out. The parkway tree — the strip between your sidewalk and the street — belongs to the City, not to you, even though you mow around it and rake its leaves. Preparation

Rigging And Cutting

Down in sections on ropes, working from the top. On tight lots this is the only safe way, and it is what most of our Chicago work involves.

Stump Grinding

Priced separately, because not everyone wants it the same day. Ground four to eight inches below grade, deeper if you are replanting — see stump removal.

What You Are Left With

Every tree removal in Chicago we do includes haul-away of the wood and the brush. No pile behind the garage, no chips left in the gangway. Half of any takedown is the cleanup, and a cheap quote that leaves you with a mess and a stump is not cheap — ask every bidder what leaves the property.
