Pro Tree Service works throughout northwest Indiana. Our crews handle tree removal, trimming and pruning, stump grinding, land and lot clearing, and storm response across Lake and Porter counties. Customers include homeowners, property managers, commercial sites, and municipalities. We are fully insured, and we carry contractor registrations in the Indiana municipalities that require them.
Our yard is in Mokena, Illinois, about thirty minutes from the Lake County line. Northwest Indiana is not an outlying territory for us. It is part of the area our crews work every week.

What Drives Tree Work Here
Three conditions account for most of the calls we take in northwest Indiana.
- Emerald ash borerAsh mortality across the region is now near total. A dead ash does not stay stable. The wood dries, turns brittle, and loses the strength a climber needs to work it safely. Once a tree passes that point, it has to come down from a bucket or a crane. That costs considerably more than removing the same tree the year it died. If you have a standing dead ash, waiting raises the price of the job.
- Lake Michigan weatherStorms coming off the water reach the shoreline communities first. Wind events that arrive from the northwest hit Gary, Hammond, Portage, and the dunes towns before they reach inland. Winter ice loading adds weight to weakened limbs and finishes trees that were already in decline.
- Shared planting erasMuch of the region’s residential tree stock went in at the same time, subdivision by subdivision. Trees planted together reach the age of routine limb failure together. That is why one storm can generate calls from an entire block at once.
What We Do
- Tree trimming and pruningClearing limbs off roofs and service drops, reducing weight on over-extended laterals, removing deadwood, and taking height off trees that have outgrown their space.
- Tree removalWhere a tree can be felled safely, we fell it. Where it cannot, we rig it down in sections under control. Every removal includes haul-away of wood and brush.
- Stump grindingWe grind four to eight inches below grade. If you plan to replant in the same spot, we grind deeper and remove the grindings.
- Land and lot clearingWe clear building lots, fence lines, and overgrown parcels for builders, developers, and property owners.
- Storm responseWe respond around the clock. Crews prioritize by hazard, starting with trees on occupied structures, then blocked access.
Working Across the State Line
Indiana municipalities set their own rules for tree contractors. Requirements vary from town to town. Depending on the address, a job may need contractor registration with the municipality, a permit for work on right-of-way trees, a surety bond on file, or a certificate of insurance naming the town.
You do not need to sort out which applies. Give us the address and describe the work, and we will tell you what the municipality requires before we start. We can issue a certificate of insurance naming a property owner, a management company, or a municipality, usually the same day.
Trees on the parkway strip between the sidewalk and the street generally belong to the municipality rather than the adjacent owner. If you are not sure whether a tree is yours, tell us where it sits relative to the sidewalk. We will tell you before you spend money on it.
Storm Response in Northwest Indiana
After a significant wind or ice event, demand across the region spikes at once. We stage crews and work by hazard rather than by call order. Trees on occupied structures come first. Then blocked driveways and access. Then everything else.
During a large regional event that can mean a wait. We will tell you honestly where you sit in the queue rather than promise a time we cannot meet. If a tree is into a service line, call the utility first and stay away from any limb touching a wire.
