Fallen tree blocking a wooded path — Tree service in Beverly Shores, IN

Beverly Shores Protects Trees on Private Land

That is unusual in this region, and if you own here you need to know it before you call anybody.

Section 155.064 protects any tree four inches or greater in diameter — on your own property, not just the parkway. On an improved lot you may remove any tree within fifteen feet of the dwelling. Beyond that fifteen feet, removal needs a permit unless the tree is dead, diseased, or an imminent hazard. Topping is prohibited. And if a tree comes down in violation, it has to be replaced with enough two-inch trees to equal the diameter that was removed.

Section 155.064(K) has teeth most codes do not: it blocks a contractor’s registration while tree removal fines are unpaid. Section 155.067 names tree services explicitly in its contractor registration requirement, with a $500,000 liability minimum.

Read it yourself in the Beverly Shores Code of Ordinances. The town is the authority on its own requirements, and nothing here is legal advice.

We are registered with the Town of Beverly Shores under § 155.067 and carry the liability coverage it requires. Ask whoever you hire whether they are — under § 155.064(K), a contractor with unpaid tree fines cannot hold a registration here, and hiring one is a problem you inherit.

Dune Ground and Park Boundaries

Beverly Shores sits inside the Indiana Dunes, largely surrounded by national park land, and the ground is sand rather than clay. On a dune slope the vegetation is doing structural work, which is exactly why the town regulates its removal so closely. Where a property backs onto park land we work to the boundary and no further.

Tree Trimming and Pruning

Clearance over roofs and drives, deadwood out of mature trees, weight reduction on over-extended laterals. We prune to ANSI A300 standards and we do not top trees — the town prohibits it and it is bad practice regardless. See our tree trimming services page.

Removals and Permits

If the tree is more than fifteen feet from the dwelling and is not dead, diseased or an imminent hazard, it needs a permit. We will tell you which category yours falls into before you spend money, and we will not encourage you to call a healthy tree a hazard. See tree and bush removal.

Stump Grinding

Every removal includes haul-away of the wood and brush. We price stump grinding separately and grind four to eight inches below grade. See stump removal and grinding.

Storm Damage in Beverly Shores

We answer the phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A tree that is an imminent hazard does not wait on a permit. Call and describe what you are looking at and we will tell you honestly whether it needs a crew that night or can wait for daylight.

If there are wires involved, stay away from the tree, call 911, then call NIPSCO’s electric emergency line at 1-800-464-7726. More on how we work storms: emergency and storm response.
