The Moraine Under the City
Valparaiso sits on the moraine that carries its name — glacial till that turns rolling and rugged east of the city and drains reasonably well. That is different ground from the dune sand along the lakeshore and different again from the saturated outwash down toward the Kankakee. Till holds a root plate firmly, which means trees here are more likely to fail by snapping than by tipping over whole. It also means equipment access is usually good, even in a wet spring, which is not true in the south of the county.

Valparaiso Rules and Our Registration
Valparaiso has no dedicated tree ordinance, and we will not pretend otherwise. What it does have is contractor registration, and it names our trade directly: § 150.01(E)(1)(n) lists tree removal, trimming, landscaping and lawn maintenance as a registered area of expertise, carrying a $500,000 insurance minimum and a $5,000 bond. We are registered with the City of Valparaiso and carry the insurance and bond the code requires. That matters more than it sounds. A registered contractor starts when the permit clears instead of waiting on paperwork, and if your insurer or HOA asks for documentation, we produce a certificate of insurance naming the right entity the same day.
It is worth asking whoever you hire. A company working Valparaiso without a current registration is a problem you inherit, not one they carry.
