Those fall under “standards set by the Morton Arboretum.” The chapter is also unambiguous on public ground: “Removal of Trees. The removal of any tree located on public property can only be done by the village.” That reference is not decoration: the Morton Arboretum publishes the planting and care standards the chapter points at.
Root Zones, And What Tree Removal North Riverside Requires
One definition at 12.20.040 is worth remembering before any excavation near a tree. The critical root zone extends outward from the trunk by one foot of radius for every inch of DBH. A 20-inch tree therefore claims a 20-foot radius, which is usually more of the yard than people expect. North Riverside incorporated on 31 July 1923 and has just passed its centenary. It holds 7,426 people on 1.64 square miles, split between townships.
