The ground underneath explains a lot too. Plainfield’s “topography is generally flat,” the land “used to be part of the bed of proglacial Lake Wauponsee,” and the DuPage River “flows through the village center.” Flat, former lakebed, close to water. In saturated ground a tree goes over at the root plate instead of snapping.
